Russian strikes completely destroy key Ukrainian power plant

Russian strikes destroyed a major power plant near Kyiv, causing widespread destruction, according to energy company Centrenergo, highlighting Russia's systematic targeting of Ukraine's energy system.

"The transformer, the turbines, the generators. They destroyed 100%.

A fire broke out in the turbine workshop of the Trypillya plant in Ukraine, following a large-scale airborne attack. Over 80 missiles and drones targeted sites across Ukraine, targeting energy infrastructure and almost a third through Ukraine's air defenses. Centrenergo confirmed its Trypillya plant was out of use.

"We can repair. We can do the impossible. But we need protection."

Two thermal power plants in western Ukraine suffered significant damage, straining the country's electricity supply. DTEK power company, already down to 20% capacity, warns that the latest missile and drone strikes will make providing critical power harder. The Kharkiv region has also been hit, with power supply dipping and surging, causing intermittent blackouts for households and businesses. Russian forces carried out "massive strikes" on oil, gas, and power energy facilities, disrupting Ukrainian military industry enterprises.
